USING NORDITROPIN®

Important notes to remember before using Norditropin®

 

  • Check the name, strength, and coloured label of your pen to make sure that it contains the growth hormone strength you need.
  • Wash hands with soap and water before giving the injection. 
  • Check to make sure that the solution inside the cartridge is clear and colourless by tipping it upside down once or twice. If the solution looks unclear or cloudy, do not use the pen.
  • Before a new pen is used for the first time, check the flow by turning the dosage selector one “click” after 0.0. Hold the pen with the needle up and tap a few times to let air bubbles rise. Press the dose button until the figure 0 in the display lines up with the pointer and a drop of growth hormone appears at the needle tip.  Always make sure that a drop appears at the needle tip before you inject your first dose with each new pen.
  • Rotate injection sites each time a new injection is given. 
  • Perform injections in a place that is comfortable, whether it be the bedroom, in the kitchen, or on the couch while watching TV.

Attach Needle

  • Take a new disposable needle and remove the protective paper tab.
  • Screw the needle tightly onto the pen.
  • Pull off the outer needle cap and save it. You will need it later to remove the needle from the pen.
  • Pull off the inner needle cap and throw it away. 

 

 

Begin to dial

 

Remember
Never use pen clicks to count number of mg. Never use the growth hormone scale to measure how much growth hormone to inject. Only the display and pointer will indicate the exact number of mg.

 

Dial Dose
Check that the dosage selector is set at 0.0.

Dial the number of mg your child’s doctor has prescribed.

 

 

Deliver dose

  • Prepare the injection site by wiping with an alcohol swab.
  • Insert the needle into the skin, then deliver the dose by pressing the push button all the way down.
  • Keep the push button fully depressed and let the needle remain under the skin for at least 6 seconds before withdrawing it.

 

 

Correctly Dispose

  • Put the outer needle cap back on carefully without touching the needle. 
  • Remove the used needle and dispose of it carefully in a sharps container.
